Computer Lab Renovation 2007
Zach Bakal and the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 10, based in Barrington, IL descended upon Beth Tikvah on Sunday, September 2, 2007 to rebuild classroom #8 into a modern, safe and effective computer lab and classroom. The initial proposal for Zach's Eagle Scout project included a temple wide e-mail campaign, flyers posted at the Barrington United Methodist Church and the distribution of 500 Jewel Shop-n-Save certificates around the community. The certificates were worth 5% of the shoppers spend at Jewel stores during the three day period following the temple membership picnic and was designed to fund the $300 project budget.
The Scout team led by Zach, along with volunteers from the Bakal family, troop parents, and Zach's friends, including temple member Leland Kaplan, worked through last minute strategy adjustments and constant activity through out the day.
After months of pre-planning, approvals by the Boy Scout Council and the Beth Tikvah Buildings & Grounds Committee began deconstructing room #8 at 9:00 am Sunday morning. By noon they were resting and feasting on pizza, brainstorming some of the major steps to follow.
Zach's proposal states, "...my Eagle project will:
- (A) build computer desks that would more effectively house the computers and better utilize the room in the lab,
- (B) set up the computers, printers, and other electronic hardware in such a way that the hardware could be put to better use, and
- (C) ensure that all of the computers were in working order and could be used effectively in their new setting".
Zach Bakal's Eagle Scout project not only earned Zach and his troop the appropriate Boy Scout honors, but will go a long way to providing Beth Tikvah families and our religious school with a great environment for learning.
Below are some of the Before, During and After Pictures.
