Fifth Grade Bible Class Description and Learning Updates

Class Description: 

• A Child’s Bible: Prophets and Writings chapters 9-18 (David, Solomon, Elijah, Jonah, Jeremiah, Job, Esther, Daniel, Nehemiah)
• Supplement with CHAI level 5 (Prophets)- Samuel, Hosea, Ezekiel, Joshua, Deborah, Jonah, Jeremiah, Amos, Isaiah, Elijah, Reform Judaism.
• The first semester begins with an overview of the structure of the Tanach.  This school year focuses on Nevi’im (Prophets), with particular emphasis on the historical prophets.  This semester, we started with the first book in Nevi’im, Joshua, where we learned how Joshua succeeded Moses as leader of the Israelites.  We studied the conquest of Canaan and, in particular, the story of Jericho.   The class especially enjoyed acting out the story of Rahab and the Israelite spies.  We also studied the second book in Nevi’im, Judges, including the stories of Deborah, Gideon and Samson.  We ended the semester with an introduction to the Book of Samuel.
