Sisterhood is the women's organization of Beth Tikvah Congregation. Not only does the name identify us as a women's group, it also reflects the atmosphere of women working and socializing together as sisters. Sisterhood works very hard to serve the congregation, the community and the national Reform Jewish Movement. We also spend time socializing, communicating and connecting.

Our first priority is our congregation's youth. We provide and serve appropriate refreshments at the holiday celebrations in religious school. Sisterhood supports the youth who attend Olin Sang Ruby Union Institute camp by providing scholarships for any entering 6th grader who attends a camp session. We send holiday packages filled with goodies to college students living away from home. Our B'nai Mitzvah coordinator gets families ready for their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs as our Simcha committee takes care of the Kiddush following the service.

Beth Tikvah Sisterhood serves Beth Tikvah Congregation in many ways. We provide for the flowers on the bima each Shabbat and an Oneg Shabbat following the service. Sisterhood takes care of all the necessities for the holidays throughout the year. Tribute calls are made to our members about congregants' important life cycle events. We mail Tribute cards for members when a request is made. Sisterhood has an extensive Judaica shop filled with all types of Jewish items. In the Judaica shop we also have books of invitations and stationery that can be special ordered for Bar and Bat Mitzvahs, weddings and other occasions. Probably one of the most visible services we perform is the maintenance of the kitchen. Sisterhood keeps it stocked and in perfect working order for members of Beth Tikvah to use.

What do we do for ourselves? It is obvious that we serve others, but we do not neglect our own needs. In the fall we host an Early Bird Dinner for all our members; in the spring, a Women's Seder and a Volunteer Appreciation Event. Our program chairperson plans at least three interesting, fun and provocative programs a year. We feed our intellects by keeping abreast of critical issues and providing information to our members. With the Rabbi's assistance, we fulfill our desire for community service by providing food for needy families at holiday times. We always have refreshments at our meetings and programs and often linger over dessert, coffee and conversation.

Members of Beth Tikvah Sisterhood are also members of the national organization, Women of Reform Judaism. There are opportunities to become involved with the national organization at many levels. WRJ is a huge contributor to the greater Jewish community and works hard to strengthen women's role in Reform Judaism. Through the Y.E.S. fund, WRJ supports youth, education, and special projects. WRJ supports Reform nursery schools in Israel, Jewish activities for high school and college-age youth through NFTY, generous scholarships for rabbinical and cantorial students to the Reform Hebrew Union College, and is a major contributor to the Jewish Braille Institute of America.
