Exploring Tradition in a Reform Community

Here are some examples of recent initiatives and discussions explored by the Ritual Committee:

  • To address our community’s needs, and to reach new and different members, the first Shabbat service of each month now begins at 6:00 pm, instead of the regular 8:00 pm.
  • We helped create an approved Board policy for streaming video for services, bar and bat mitzvahs and family events.
  • We have worked together to explore the meaning of tradition and the place for innovation in an active, Reform Jewish community. For instance, we have explored why, and whether, to require head coverings while on the bima, and whether to use “G-d” or “God” in official correspondence.
