Interfaith Marriage Committee
As some of you may already know, a committee has been formed to explore whether there is a need at the Temple to have a policy regarding the Rabbi's performance of Inter-Faith Marriage ceremonies. The subject was first brought to our attention when we were conducting the rabbinical search, which led us to Rabbi Covitz, and it was then decided that we would address the issue in the coming year. The committee is comprised of both board and non-board members, including 2 ex-presidents.
As it stands, the Temple does not have a policy on this subject, but has a tradition of our Rabbi not participating in Inter-Faith Marriage ceremonies, either inside or outside the Temple. The job of the committee is to examine this topic to determine whether or not the Temple requires such a policy.
The findings of the committee will be published at the annual congregation meeting, which will be held on Sunday, April 4, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. After reviewing such findings and listening to congregants concerns and comments, the committee will make a recommendation to the Board of Directors, who will then vote on the issue.
Any congregant who wants to weigh in on the issue before the congregational meeting can email me at ExecutiveVicePresident@beth-tikvah.org
I will bring all comments to the committee's attention.
